Celebrating World Earth Day

Students across the College are actively supporting World Earth Day by taking part in practical sustainability projects that reflect this year’s theme, ‘Our Power, Our Planet’. Through hands on activities, community partnerships and student led initiatives, learners are demonstrating their commitment to protecting the environment.

At the Beaconsfield Centre, students regularly visit Malden Lime Grove Bowling Club, where they help maintain the gardens and outdoor spaces. By supporting planting, tidying and general upkeep, students are helping to care for a shared green space while strengthening links with the local community. The weekly visits give students a sense of pride and responsibility as they contribute to keeping this small green oasis welcoming and well cared for.

At the recent Student Voice Conference, learners took part in interactive sustainability workshops focused on shaping the College Climate Action Plan. Working in small groups, students shared ideas on reducing energy use, improving recycling, supporting biodiversity and encouraging sustainable travel. The sessions promoted teamwork and creativity, while empowering students to take an active role in the College Climate Action Plan.

Across the College, students are engaging in outdoor learning, environmental projects and eco‑friendly practices that link education with real world climate action.

Through their enthusiasm and involvement, students are showing that World Earth Day is not just a one day event, but part of an ongoing commitment to caring for the planet. By taking positive action locally, they are helping to build a more sustainable future for their communities and the wider world.
