Creating Experiences Everyone Can Feel

Learners and staff at Park View have come together to create an immersive Easter sensory trail, designed and developed by our PMLD learners.

This builds on the success of a Christmas sensory trail created in 2024, where learners used scents, textures, colours and interactive elements to design an experience accessible to all. But this wasn’t just about creativity – it was about communication, choice and purpose.

Throughout the term, learners used their communication devices to express ideas and make decisions, from selecting materials to shaping how each element would feel and look. With support, these choices were brought together to create something much bigger.

Individually, each piece may have seemed small, but together, they created a powerful shared experience for the whole college.

Following the success of the Christmas trail, learners are now developing seasonal sensory experiences each term. The Easter trail is the latest, with plans already underway for a summer-themed version.

For learners with profound and multiple learning disabilities, traditional routes into employability can be limited. Projects like this provide a meaningful alternative — allowing learners to contribute, make choices and see the direct impact of their work.

More than just a sensory experience, the trail is a celebration of creativity, inclusion and the voices of our learners.
