Digital Hub at the Stoop
Supporting our local communities is always at the heart of OHC&AT and is illustrated by the Digital School and their latest collaboration with The Harlequins Foundation. Together they offer a Digital Hub at Twickenham Stoop, home to the Harlequins Rugby Team which supports young people to develop technical and vocational skills for the 21st century.
Visitors at the weekly sessions learn to use cutting edge technology, including, Virtual Reality (VR) Augmented Reality (AR) and Green Screens to overcome real life challenges.
This year young people will produce a series of major projects as the Digital Hub expands its offer. Orchard Hill College students are working on a digital tour of the Twickenham Stoop Stadium and supporting the Foundation’s men’s health campaign in partnership with Movember.
Simon Gale, Creative Director of the Digital School said: We are really excited to be working with Harlequins Foundation again this year and for our students to be taking part in some really interesting and innovative projects. Bringing our students to the Media Centre at the Stoop offers them a variety of new experiences and opportunities outside of their regular curriculum and allows them to showcase their digital and creative skills to the wider community.
Orchard Hill College student Joseph, said: “I got to do some filming today and I really enjoyed it. I also went to see the Members Lounge with all of the special rugby shirts and trophies, it was brilliant.”
Andy Carpenter, Harlequins Foundation Manager, said: “The skills that students learn whilst at the Digital Hub can easily transfer into a range of different subjects and careers and hopefully the sessions will inspire young people to continue engagement with essential STEM subjects.”
