Disability Sports Coach talk at WorkStart Kingston
The Disability Sports Coach organisation visited WorkStart students at Christ Church (Kingston) to talk about their Inclusive Activity Leaders (IAL) programme and the different routes into coaching, volunteering and employment through sport.
Disability Sports Coach use the unique power of sport and physical activity to enhance the lives of disabled people. Delivered in partnership with Nike, the IAL programme is about more than qualifications. It’s about helping people discover what they’re capable of, in spaces where they feel supported and included. For many disabled young people, opportunities to build confidence, meet new people and feel part of something can still be limited.
The talk took place during Mental Health Awareness Week and its powerful message resonated even more because of it. Sport and physical activity can play a huge role in wellbeing, confidence and connection, but only when opportunities are genuinely accessible.
Students were engaged and asked lots of great questions. Their feedback was that they could see themselves become a sports coach and sparked a lively discussion about their ideas and ambitions.
