Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions

By Ellie Stevens - August 1st, 2023 | Posted in News

Our students have been working hard towards gaining their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards this term.

One group of students completed their one and two-night expeditions for their Bronze and Silver Awards. The students visited Gallipot and Five Hundred Acre Wood Circular in Hartfield and completed two long hikes over the two days, while spotting herds of deer on route! The Five Hundred Acre Wood is the setting for A.A Milne’s Winnie the Pooh book and the students were lucky enough to explore the area and visit Pooh Sticks Bridge.

The students developed a range of new skills and took part in new activities including circus skills, fire building, putting up tents, food preparation, cooking, archery and football. One member of staff even wowed the students with a juggling show!

Another group of students headed to Bushy Park over two days to take part in the Bronze Award Restricted Expedition, where they took part in a sensory walk around the beautiful Isabella Plantation and accessible cycling. The group even bumped into David Weir CBE.

Congratulations to all our students that have worked so hard to secure their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards this year!
