Fresh flavours and life skills at Sutton Life Centre
Students have been putting their curriculum learning into practice during a recent food technology lesson focused on nutrition, independence and essential life skills.
Using fresh ingredients, students worked together to prepare a delicious pasta dish, developing practical cooking techniques while reinforcing their understanding of healthy, balanced meals. The session supported teamwork, confidence in the kitchen and an appreciation of how nutrition plays a key role in everyday wellbeing.
Once the dish was ready, students sat together to enjoy the meal they had created, sharing food as a group and taking pride in the results of their hard work. These shared moments help build social skills, confidence and a strong sense of community, alongside practical learning.
Reflecting on the lesson, student Kayleigh said, “I love food tech and really look forward to Wednesdays. I love cooking!”
Food technology lessons like this help students develop vital life skills while showing that learning can be practical, rewarding and enjoyable.
