Occupational Therapy

The Occupational Therapy team offer a range of specialist programmes that are designed to improve and develop the independent living skills of students. These skills and programmes are practiced in real life situations and settings within the college and local community. This gives students the confidence and skills they need to live as independently as possible after college.

Occupational Therapy programmes and interventions are embedded into the curriculum and focus on the following areas:

  • Sensory processing needs
  • Skill development e.g. eating & drinking, domestic skills, money management & travel skills
  • Upper limb
  • Safe moving and handling to enable students to be able to access their daily routines
  • Assessment and prescription of specialist seating/equipment

Occupational Therapists regularly liaise with families, carers and other professionals during assessments. Occupational Therapists provide training to staff and families to ensure consistent approaches are used to enable students to maximise their full potential.
