Specialist Therapists at Orchard Hill College undertake clinical assessments to establish the level of input required. Therapy is provided by using a multifaceted approach in order to support the students in both independence and education. This may include direct and indirect input in the form of staff training/upskilling, group or 1:1 sessions, whole class based therapeutic strategies, observations and liaisons with other members of the MDT (multi-disciplinary team). Programmes are developed by therapists and are embedded into the student’s day at college. Programmes are delivered as appropriate by trained members of the curriculum team and reviewed by therapists as required.
The type of therapy offered is based on the student’s clinical need and the influence on the student’s learning, independence and quality of life.
Therapists work in collaboration with students, curriculum staff and families to achieve the EHCP outcomes within the educational environment.
Delivery of therapeutic interventions take place over a period of time to ensure goals are supported/achieved. This will be in the form of a termly or yearly package as therapy is embedded into the curriculum and may not be weekly therapy sessions.
Therapists also assess and review specialist equipment. Therapy funding is based on the college therapy packages, which are based on the clinical need.
