A learner-run tuck shop in the Hillingdon region is proving to be a huge success, providing tasty treats for learners, staff and visitors while helping learners develop valuable skills for the future.

Open Monday to Friday during term time, the tuck shop has been set up and is run by learners. Customers can choose from a range of snacks and refreshments, including drinks, crisps, biscuits, chocolate and sweets, with both cash and card payments accepted.

From preparing the shop each day and serving customers to managing stock levels and keeping financial records, learners are involved in every aspect of the business. They have even designed and made their own aprons, adding a personal touch to the venture and taking great pride in their work.

The tuck shop has quickly become a firm favourite across the College community, with a steady stream of customers eager to support the venture and enjoy the convenient service on offer.

As well as being popular, the enterprise has also been financially successful. Thanks to the profit made during the last term, learners were able to celebrate their achievements with a trip to a local mini golf venue, enjoying a well-earned reward for their hard work, enthusiasm and dedication.

The project provides learners with a valuable opportunity to develop a range of practical and transferable skills, including business management, money handling, customer service and teamwork. It is also helping learners build confidence, independence and communication skills in a real-world setting.

The continued success of the tuck shop demonstrates what learners can achieve when given the opportunity to take ownership of a project, and it remains an exciting and rewarding part of life in the Hillingdon region of Orchard Hill College.
