Orchard Hill College hosts inspiring Student Voice Conference

Orchard Hill College hosted an empowering Student Voice Conference, bringing together students from all regions for a full day of workshops, collaboration and creative expression. The event reinforced the College’s commitment to ensuring students play an active role in shaping their educational experience and brought the student voice to the forefront.

The conference opened with morning workshops tailored to different learning pathways focusing on “Our voice matters!” Following a productive morning, attendees enjoyed lunch prepared and served by Orchard Hill College students, offering an opportunity for students to socialise and share experiences.

In the afternoon, students took part in interactive sustainability workshops focused on developing the College Climate Action Plan. Working in small groups, students came up with practical ideas around reducing energy use, improving recycling, promoting biodiversity and encouraging sustainable travel. The session encouraged teamwork, creativity and shared responsibility for the College’s environmental impact.

The OHC Podcast Studio gave students another way to share their views and suggestion boxes and an interactive Padlet wall also supported participation throughout the day.

Aleigha, student from Park View Centre, Hillingdon said: “I really enjoyed the day, and my favourite part was the sustainability workshop where we discussed recycling at College. I even had the opportunity to speak in front of everyone to thank them for coming.”

Maraj, student from Park View Centre, Hillingdon said: “I really enjoyed the student Voice Conference and I’d rate it 10 out of 10. It was nice meeting new people from different centres and being part of conversations where I could share my ideas. We discussed topics around recycling and things like plants and solar panels. I suggested that our centre could have a compost bin to help keep it green. I liked taking part in the workshops and the closing speech was really good too. It felt nice to be part of something positive and to contribute to change.”

It allows us to hear directly from them, listen to their ideas and suggestions, and celebrate their contributions. It’s also a great chance for students to socialise, connect and catch up with one another.”
