Orchard Hill College Opens in Bermondsey
Orchard Hill College has opened a brand-new centre in Bermondsey, giving our young adults more opportunities to develop their skills and get involved in the local community.
Students will be working towards Foundation Skills for Life and Skills for Work and Living, all designed to help them build confidence, independence and readiness for employment. Alongside functional skills and independent living, they’ll explore a range of vocational pathways, including:
- Catering
- Expressive Arts
- Customer Service
- Digital Media
- Estate Management
…and several others that reflect their interests and ambitions.
The new site is ideally placed near local amenities, making it easier for students to learn, travel and take part in community life. We already have strong partnerships across Southwark and will continue to build new connections in Bermondsey, creating more opportunities for students to gain real work experience with local businesses and community groups. Current Partnerships include:
| Bede House | Dexter’s Adventure Playground | Ruskin Park Friends. |
| Books Beyond Words | Dulwich Leisure Centre | Sailability |
| Brixton Libraries | Lambeth Mencap | Salvation Army – Camberwell |
| Brixton Recreation Centre | Peckham Pulse | Southwark Playhouse |
| Burgess Park Café | People First Lambeth | Tom’s Farm |
| Camberwell Library | Pretty Little Cupcakes |
Facilities at Cherry Gardens include three specialist classrooms, therapy spaces, social and common areas, both catering and independent living kitchens, and access to a range of local community amenities, rather than large on-site workshops, supporting our inclusive and community-based model.
Head of College, Karen Esson commented “We are very happy to be opening a new facility in the heart of Bermondsey and our students and staff are excited to make this new centre a vibrant part of the neighbourhood.”.
The new address is Cherry Gardens, 25 Cherry Garden Street, Bermondsey, London, SE16 4QF.
