Students welcome new Sutton Councillors to their podcast

Orchard Hill College students, Joseph and Morgan invited two newly elected Sutton Councillors onto their ‘Westminster Unfiltered’ podcast to talk about their new roles and plans for the local community.

Councillor Aaron Goater and Councillor Rukhsar Askari introduced themselves and explained what councillors do, including representing residents and helping improve local services.

They spoke about why they wanted to become councillors, saying they want to help local people and make a positive difference in the borough. They also spoke about what happened during the election day and how they felt proud and honoured to be elected by the people of Sutton.

During the podcast, the Councillors discussed both the good and challenging parts of life in Sutton. They highlighted the strong community spirit and local support, while also recognising issues that need attention. They talked about their plans to help the community by supporting local projects, listening to residents and helping make Sutton an even better place to live and learn.

Joseph and Morgan were also keen to find out what football teams the Councillors support, their favourite food and their opinions on pineapple on a pizza!

The conversation gives listeners a fresh and approachable look at local leadership, blending serious discussion with light-hearted moments. It was a fantastic opportunity for Orchard Hill College students to connect with those shaping their community and to have their voices heard.
