Sutton Learners celebrated for their achievements this year
Learners from Orchard Hill College’s Sutton region celebrated at a vibrant awards ceremony, bringing together learners, families, carers and staff to recognise a year of outstanding achievement and personal growth.
The event recognised the wide-ranging successes of our learners from across the Sutton region, from academic accomplishments and employment milestones to increased independence, communication skills and wellbeing. The awards were presented by Kelly Phillips, Executive Principal, Charlotte Evans, Director of Operations and Kerry Macey, Head of College for Sutton.
The occasion highlighted the impact of inclusive education, with many learners achieving significant personal milestones. Among those recognised were learners who built confidence through contributing to the College podcast and advocating for the SEND sector, as well as peers who made progress in physical fitness.
Other marked achievements included academic achievements such as AQA qualifications, completion of Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, gaining work placements, transitioning into supported living, improving communication skills, mobility skills and travel skills.
Several learners were recognised for their employment success, securing meaningful roles in the community. These include positions such as a teaching assistant, a sports instructor, a disability sports coach, a caretaker, library worker, a bike maintenance role and roles in hospitality, including at the new Blended Community Café at Sutton Life Centre.
Kelly Phillips, Executive Principal said: “The awards ceremony is a powerful reminder of what our learners can achieve when they are supported, encouraged and given the opportunity to thrive. We are incredibly proud of each and every student – their resilience, determination and progress are truly inspiring.”
Kerry Macey, Head of College for Sutton added: “It has been wonderful to celebrate these achievements with the learners and their families and staff. Each award represents a journey of growth, whether that’s developing independence, gaining qualifications or moving into employment and it’s a privilege to be part of their journey.”
