The Power of Specialist Education at Park View

We are delighted to share an inspiring progress story from Park View about Alfie and his exceptional journey over his three years at college.

When Alfie first joined Park View, he attended on reduced days and found it challenging to access the wider community. Throughout his first year, Alfie benefitted from having a quiet, low‑demand room away from his peer group. This space provided the calm, predictable environment he needed to settle into college life at his own pace, build trust with staff, and feel secure in new routines.

In his second year, Alfie took a significant step forward by joining his class group. With patience and support, he began exploring the community near college, including successful visits to Sainsbury’s and later Ruislip Lido. Each outing reflected his growing confidence, emotional regulation, and willingness to engage in environments that once felt overwhelming.

Another major achievement for Alfie is that he has not only transitioned successfully using the college bus and public transport to explore community venues, but he also got up from his wheelchair to sit on a public bus seat, even in a crowded space confidently greeting learners from neighbouring Uxbridge College as he travelled.

This year, as Alfie approaches the end of his third year, his progress has continued to shine. This week, he was able to visit a café, and use the park in his home community of Feltham

This milestone demonstrates Alfie’s increasing independence, social confidence, and comfort navigating busy spaces. It also highlights the effectiveness of giving neurodivergent learners the time, respect, and tailored support they need to thrive.

Alfie’s journey is a powerful reminder that progress looks different for every learner and when we honour individual needs and celebrate each step, remarkable growth follows.
